To Overcome Everything And Succeed

How can I be so certain? Janae Sergio has done it! She is a person with an incredible rags-to-riches, overcoming incredible traumatic landmines story, that verifies the journey is possible as she writes about it in her best-selling book on Amazon, “Perfectly Flawed: A Veteran’s Journey from Homeless to Hero.” I recently had the opportunity to interview Janae after meeting her in Houston, TX at She Talks.
Janae a traumatic childhood, as she was abused by her mom and various men who dated her mom as she grew up. It might sound odd, however, up until the age of 13, Janae didn’t know that the abuse she suffered was abnormal. At thirteen her mom started taking the family to church and through interacting with other kids in the church, Janae began to see that endured through
the abuse she suffered, was in fact not normal, which caused her, in turn, to start speaking out against it to her mom. This new “rebellious” attitude, speaking out about the abuse she endured at her mom’s hand caused even more friction and a greater divide in the home. It got so bad that the thought of suicide entered Janae’s mind frequently and eventually led to Janae’s running away.
Imagine legitimately thinking your mom might kill you one day. Most of the abuse Janae suffered as a child came at the hand of her mom. It was from rage, “blackout rage” anger, fueled by alcohol and possibly drugs. Her mom would come home in the middle of the night after her shift as a bartender at 3-4 in the morning, wake up Janae and she would inflict these intense beatings on her.
