Gene Abel – A Man of Honor By Debra Wallace

When you meet Gene Abel, you quickly see that he is a man of great character, whose life’s journey is a shining example of his many laudable deeds. The more you speak to him it is clear that he is a devoted family man, who has used his business ability, distinguished military career, engaging writing style, and caring heart to continue to make our world a better place. The best-selling author of 10 published books, several of them in the sci-fi genre and The Inn of Destiny, a romance novel, which is motivated by his passion for storytelling, as well as for doing the right thing. As a man who has always had a strong work ethic, Abel has sage advice to share with his grandchildren, who range in age from 8 to 25: “I want each of them to know they have to live their own lives. They can get advice, but they have to figure out on their own what they are going to do with that advice,” he explained. “And most of all it is vital that we follow the rules.” The retired U.S. Army Colonel, who served his country with dedication and distinction said the most important elements of his military life chapter was as a young first lieutenant he was assigned as a Nuclear Weapons Officer and as such he was a member of the Nuclear Release Authority given the task to launch such weapons. At a time in life when many of us consider slowing down during our retirement, especially after a 30-year business and military career, he still has much more to give and to accomplish. Abel relishes the opportunity to attend book signings, and he is working diligently to turn several of his books into streaming films or major motion pictures. Currently, he is putting the finishing touches on his latest book, The Aliens Step In, a sci-fi and time travel tale that completes his time travel trilogy, Defenders of Time. The first two books in the series are, Going Back and Kidnappers from the Future. He is also extremely proud of his book, What, If Anything Is Out There?”

Abel gets great joy in creating the stories and characters for his books as well as hearing from the readers he meets through social media and at various book events. Abel has enjoyed hands-on endeavors throughout his life, including serving as a committeeman in Valley Forge, PA. as well as other community and church involvement. “I was the president of the Cape Coral (Florida) Housing and Rehab Development Agency and we helped low-income homeowners to rehab their homes,” he recalled with pride. “The agency provided zero-interest loans, and loan forgiveness, if the homeowners lived in the residence for 10 years.” Abel was active as chairman of the board of the Christ Lutheran School in Cape Coral, where he was involved in many community and charitable endeavors. One of them close to his heart was his church’s Food Closet. On a regular basis, this program helped a couple of hundred “extremely appreciative people” who were having a hard time. “It is a privilege to give back, regardless of your means or status in life,” Abel said. “We are not an island unto ourselves.” “If someone is fortunate enough to have good health, a sound mind, and some success at whatever they did in their life,” he continued, “I strongly believe that it is incumbent upon them to provide this to someone else.” For further information about Gene Abel go to: Website: www.genepabelbooks.com Email: genep0041@comcast.net
