Overcoming a Financial Storm and Suicidal Thoughts

If this was a made-for-TV movie, Kamin would have left the military and had smooth sailing. However, life is real, and her life took an unexpected spiral downward before she rebounded and took off as a successful entrepreneur. Out of the military, Kamin was part of a direct sales company and found herself way overleveraged on her credit cards due to the inventory levels she was holding. This fall from the mountaintop of being a successful pilot and owning two homes to being broke and nearly homeless was financially devastating, and Kamin was forced to file for bankruptcy. She endured extreme mental stress over failing financially, which led her to contemplate suicide one day. She was in her kitchen staring at knives on the counter, thinking she could simply “end it all” right then and there. No one in her inner circle knew how much the stress affected her desire to continue living. One thing that helped Kamin overcome her internal battle was committing mentally not to allow herself to entertain the thought of suicide ever again.
